When my skin burned and my mind wouldn’t stop: my journey through anxiety
Some years ago I had a job that I guess you could say wasn’t a fit for me. I didn’t know what was going on, but as I got closer to work each day, my skin started to feel like it was burning. My chest would tighten, I couldn’t sleep properly, my mind wouldn’t turn off. It showed up in other places too, and I became really good at avoiding things, distracting myself, or pushing through with a clenched jaw. But it was exhausting. Hypnotherapy helped me take back control.
Anxiety doesn’t always look like panic attacks or obvious worry. It can show up in so many different ways - racing thoughts, overthinking, constantly imagining worst-case scenarios, or feeling like your mind just won’t switch off. You might find it hard to concentrate, struggle with decision-making, or constantly second-guess yourself. For some people, anxiety feels like a constant sense of dread; for others, it shows up as irritability, overwhelm, or even anger.
Physically, anxiety can affect the body just as much as the mind. It might feel like tightness in the chest, a racing heart, tense muscles, nausea, or ongoing gut issues like IBS. Many people experience chronic fatigue from being in a constant state of tension, or struggle to fall asleep even when exhausted. Sometimes anxiety drives perfectionism, people-pleasing, avoidance, or withdrawal from things that feel overwhelming. It’s a pattern the nervous system gets stuck in - always bracing for something to go wrong.
The good news - Anxiety isn’t you. It’s a pattern your nervous system has learned - a pattern of hyper-alertness, rumination, and worry. Hypnotherapy works by calming the overactive mind, soothing the nervous system, and helping to retrain those anxious thought loops. It’s not about ‘just relaxing’ for an hour; it’s about creating real, lasting change in how your mind and body respond to life.
Hypnotherapy can help you:
Quiet the racing thoughts and mental overwhelm
Calm your nervous system and reduce physical symptoms like tension, rapid heartbeat, or nausea
Break free from avoidance patterns and feel more confident in daily life
Improve sleep and reduce fatigue from constant overthinking
Learn powerful coping strategies to navigate stress, uncertainty, and change
Reconnect with a sense of calm, clarity, and safety within yourself
You don’t have to stay stuck in survival mode. Hypnotherapy offers a gentle but powerful way to step out of anxiety patterns and step back into your brighter life.
